Highly educated, secure job in nursing administration, happy family, but not fulfilled. Always a go-getter, and achieved a lot, but knew there was more out there for me.

I wasn't always this way. In high school I was the captain of the cheerleading squad, but I walked to class alone. I was a stellar procrastinator and under-achiever. I didn't know what I wanted, who I was, or what direction I wanted to take after school. I was incredibly insecure, and never allowed myself to feel accepted. I had friends, but kept everyone at arm's length. 

College was a hodgepodge of a little bit of class time, working at a restaurant and a bank, and Thursday night bottomless cups. It wasnt until I moved back home and had my first son that I decided to enter the nursing field. 

In the nursing field, there is a common saying of "nurses eat their young". It's so true that a friend in grad school had it tattooed across her chest! Coming from the "do this" instead of "let's do this" workplace, I learned that was not the type of leader I wanted to be. In my organization, you have the community and support so we can all be successful together.
